Pitching: Practice, practice, practice

You have scripted your pitch.

You got feedback and you have tightened it.

It flows, it is crisp, it makes sense.

You have highlighted the following:

  • Pain
  • Product
  • The demonstration
  • What makes your idea unique
  • Traction
  • How much funding you seek
  • Your dream team
  • Call to action

So what’s next?

Practice, practice, practice your pitch.

  • Practice standing up just like you would in front of your audience
  • Practice with your slides
  • Practice using your clicker/remote
  • Practice until you get on stage
  • The more you practice, the less the fear
  • Practice in front of other people, friends, family etc.
  • Practice time [If your pitch is 5 minutes, practice your pitch for less than 5 minutes]
  • Practice tone [don’t mumble or high pitched]
  • Practice pace [don’t be too fast or too slow]
  • Practice body language [posture, use of hands, eye contact, no finger-pointing]
  • Practice over and over and over.

As Malcolm Gladwell says:

“Practice isn’t the thing you do once you’re good. It’s the thing you do that makes you good.”
