In an inspiring display of leadership last year , Ethiopians planted more than 350 million trees in 12 hours as part of a wider reforestation program called “Green Legacy.”
Led by a call from the Prime Minister Ahmed Abiy and his cabinet of ministers, Ethiopians broke the previous record set by Indians in 2017 [66 million trees].
What is most impressive is that the Ethiopians have targeted 4 Billion trees this year .
I hope that with Covid-19 halting most of countries’s activities, Ethiopia will find space to still plant more trees.
At a time when Brazil’s incredible Amazonian rain forests are reaching dangerously negative tipping points due to deforestation, Ethiopia has set the marker for what positive change looks like.
Thank you, Ethiopia.
